Curtis Nelson Van Koevering, age 86, of Jenison, was called to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, October 30, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Nellie Van Koevering; brother, Gerald Van Koevering; sister, June Westra; infant daughter, Carol Ann Van Koevering. Curt served two years in the US Army during the Korean War. Right out of the service he married the love of his life, Gerrietta. He started as an upholsterer at Stow and Davis and worked there 30 years. After Stow and Davis he started his own upholstery business and was very successful at that. At age 50 he attended Ferris State and received his certificate to teach upholstery at Kent County Skills Center. This was a service he cherished, and he was a true light to all his students and the staff. Curt also served as a deacon, elder, Sunday school superintendent, and Cadet counselor at the churches he attended. He was a man of faith and walked very humbly with his Lord. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 years, Gerrietta; his children, Ken and Faye Van Koevering, Karen and Ron Doornbos, Cal and Pam Van Koevering, Sue and Dean Clement; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; brother, Roger and Jean Van Koevering; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Gladys Kooienga, Arnold and Arlene Kooienga, Wayne Kooienga, Marian Koster, Marilyn Rennison, Gerald and Dixie Kooienga, Elma Meeusen, Elmer and Aletha Kooienga, Floyd and Mary Kooienga, Lloyd and Vicki Kooienga, Lorraine Folkert, Kathy Laatz, Twilla and Bob DeWitt, Pauline House, Joan Sattler, Lois and Stanley Dykstra, Lon Kooinega. Funeral services will be held on Thursday 11 am at Cornerstone United Reformed Church, 6442- 36th Avenue, Hudsonville, with Rev. Philip Vos officiating. Interment Floral View Memorial Gardens.
