Cornelis “Kees” DeKort, age 84, formerly of Tallmadge Twp., lived his final years in Byron Center, passed away peacefully and entered into his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 and will walk amongst the beautiful gardens with his Savior. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Johanna DeKort; his children, Henry and Mary DeKort, Jacob DeKort, and Jane and Dan Mohr; grandchildren, Lyndsey DeKort, and Ryan DeKort, Joshua and Joanna Mohr, and Casey Mohr; three great grandchildren, Sophie, Gianna, and Charlotte Mohr. Also surviving are his sister, Margaretha J. deWit; and several nieces and nephews. Kees was honored to serve in the Army with the 101st Airborne Infantry, Trailblazers and the Old Reliables. After his honorable discharge, Kees and his father Hendrik started H. DeKort and Son Nursery. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staffs of Faith Hospice and Metro Health. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 at 11 AM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. H. Hofman officiating. Interment Rosedale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 5-8 PM and Friday from 10-10:45 AM at the funeral home.
