VandenBerg, Constance Elizabeth Constance Elizabeth VandenBerg, age 97, of Wyoming passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014. She was born to Erick and Selma Johnson on May 29, 1917 in Duluth, MN. She was one of five siblings, all of which have preceded her in death. As a lively and determined woman she left her mark on many. The two things Connie never lacked were wit and a generous spirit. Raised on a farm and educated in a one room schoolhouse, Connie began her career as a nurse in Chicago before settling in Grand Rapids, MI. It was here, where she met and married the late, Jay VandenBerg, her husband of 55 years. Connie was later blessed with three children, eight grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren who all affectionately remember her humor and kindness. She was a tender and devoted mother who, with her husband, raised her children in a Christian home. Connie was a dedicated employee of Clark Retirement Home for many years. She heartily enjoyed travel, theater and reading, but above all, time spent with her family. Connie was lovingly cared for by the nursing staff at Vista Springs Assisted Living Center where she lived the last year of her life. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jack and Colleen VandenBerg of Holland, Elizabeth and Richard Deppe of Grandville, Barbara VandenBerg of Holland; grandchildren, Erica and Craig Singer, Hope and Sam Mason, Elizabeth and Nick Gates, Erin and Joe Alt, Jay and Melyn VandenBerg, Mark and Sharon Deppe, Todd and Leslie Deppe, Lindsay Deppe; 18 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Agnus VandenBerg; special niece Phyllis DeGood. Funeral services will be held on Friday 11 am at Newhall Community Church, 3746 Byron Center SW, Wyoming with Rev. Thomas Bos officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 10-11 am at church prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Mel Trotter Ministries or Doctors Without Borders.
