
Clara “Joyce” Hoffman, age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marcia; granddaughter, Teresa; parents, Aldert and Ann Venhuizen; siblings, Sam (Joyce) and Ken Venhuizen, Alicia Newville; her former husband and close companion, Doug Hoffman. She is survived by her children, Cindy (Don) Schloesser, Judy (Jim) Shear, Phil (Melissa) Veenstra, Dawn (Eric) Krieger; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Ron (Lin) Venhuizen; sister-in-law, Bette Venhuizen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chuck (Judy) Syren.
Her testimony throughout her life was that Jesus was with her no matter the circumstances. She lived this out by being a caring person whether she was practicing as a nurse, helping refugees settle in Grand Rapids or serving as a “chauffeur” to other women on trips out east. She enjoyed traveling and visited lighthouses throughout Michigan. She was proud of her children and grandchildren rarely missing their sporting events and special occasions.
A private burial has taken place. Memorial services will be held 11 am Saturday, April 19 at Unity Reformed Church, 4450 Poinsettia SE, Kentwood. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday from 10-11 am at the church prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Unity Reformed Church or Quality Care Hospice.
