Charlotte Jean Nyland

Charlotte “Char” J. Nyland, age 81, of Belmont, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026. Char worked for the American Legion Post 47 for 36 years. She had a generous heart and delighted in sharing her famous Christmas candy with any and everyone. Char also loved to crochet, creating everything from blankets to mittens and sweaters, which she lovingly gave to those in need. 

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years Dick Nyland Jr., son Dirk (Yuko) Nyland III, granddaughters Tiffany Nyland, Lindsay and Katelyn; siblings-in-law Marilyn Rosencrans, Barbara Sutter; and many dear nieces, nephews and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her son Timothy McCann; parents-in-law Dirk “Dick” and Mildred Nyland; parents, Henry and Ruth Atkinson; and her siblings Patricia Baker and Ronald Atkinson. 

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 25, at 11 am at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Sunday from 10-11 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Legion Post 47 Women's Auxiliary.
