Charlie Lee Vaughn, Jr.

Charlie Lee Vaughn, Jr., age 69, born Tunica, Mississippi, died September 17, 2018. Charlie was raised in the city of Benton Harbor, Michigan. A graduate of Benton Harbor High School 1968.  Joined the United States Air Force as an Administrative Specialist.  Recognition was honor to him for outstanding records keeping and filing at Kincheloe Air Force Base, Kinross, Michigan. There he met and married his wife, Catherine Vaughn. He and his wife, Catherine settled in Benton Harbor. He attended Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, and then was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church, both in Benton Harbor.  He enrolled at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI and then Lake Michigan College, Benton Harbor, as a Business Major.  Worked for Benton Harbor Area Schools transportation as a bus driver, and became a dispatcher, and later on resigned. Then relocated to South Haven Schools Transportation as a dispatcher, where he retired from. He relocated to Kentwood, MI where he attended Kentwood Community Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Lee and Mary Ella Vaughn; grandparents, Bernard and Elvira Williams; sister, Mary “Rudy” Blanks; uncles, Jonnie, Nathaniel, and Herman. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Catherine; son, DeArest; daughter, Tasha; grandsons, I’zais and Wynton; brothers, Jessie “Bim”, Jeffery Allen “Ricky”, Daniel “Darnell”, Tony Dwayne (Lisa); sisters, Annette Marie Vaughn-Johnson; godsister, Stacy (George) Jett; a host of nephews, nieces, family, friends and dear friends. Charlie enjoyed reading, playing chess, dominos, checkers, solving Sudoku and playing basketball.  In his younger days on the Air Force base, he was voted “most valuable player” of the basketball team. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 13th, 1 p.m. at Kentwood Community Church (1200 60th St SE, Kentwood 49508 - use the prayer chapel entrance) with Rev. Kyle Ray officiating. Inurnment at Ft. Custer Cemetery.  Memorial contributions would be appreciated to help with the needs of the family.
