
Charles “Sam” Geiger, age 83, of Grand Rapids, was called home on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Huey Geiger; sister, Carolyn Aldrich. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Carol, who he met in 8th grade; daughters, Cynthia (Jim Steele) Geiger and Catherine (Jay) Schripsema; grandchildren, Kennedy, Cassidy, Charlie, Jack, Sam, and Miller; and brother-in-law, Jerry Aldrich.
Sam proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Sam retired from United Airlines after almost 40 years as a general manager at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. He enjoyed spending hours in his workshop working on wood carving and tinkering. He also had a passion for airplanes, history, reading, and sharing all the things he had learned over the years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, January 3, 2024 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 9408 Wilson Ave. SW, Byron Center, with Msgr. Bill Duncan officiating. Burial will take place at St. Sebastian Church Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Thursday from 5 to 7 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, and on Friday one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Villa at Traverse Point.
