Charles Robert Scott

Charles Robert Scott, age 91, died on Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Chuck (known to some as Bob) was born in Duluth, MN, in 1923 to Lawrence and Dorothy (Eric(k)son) Scott. His stepmother, who raised him, was Helen (Brainard) Scott. After serving as a stateside Army medic in WWII, Chuck married Andrea Hallett in 1946, graduated from Olivet College in 1947 and earned a Masters degree from the University of Rochester in 1951. Chuck worked as a biochemist for Dow Chemical Company in Midland for 34 years, specializing in food packaging research. A sailor and disciplined swimmer, Chuck was also committed to service in his church (elder, deacon, choir member) and his community (Kiwanis, Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity, Inland Seas Schoolship Program, Northwest Michigan Blood Center). Chuck is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Andrea (Hallett) Scott; his children, Karin (James) Parrott, Kathleen (Robert) Beatty, Gregory (Kay) Scott, and Robert (Tina) Scott; as well as six grandchildren, Thomas (Rachel) Martin, Matthew (Jennifer) Parrott, Amanda (Lawrence) Hengesbach, Meghan Parrott, Hannah Scott and Ryan Scott, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Lawrence. A memorial service will be held at Mayflower Congregational Church, 2345 Robinson Road SE, Grand Rapids, on Monday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m.  A brief memorial will also be held in the spring for the interment of his ashes in the Prayer Garden of the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City,701 Westminster Road.  Those who wish to make contributions in his memory are encouraged to donate to the Inland Seas Education Association Traditional Schoolship Program, P.O.
