Charles Edward Allen

Charles Edward Allen, aged 95, of Florida, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and husband. Charles served 3 years in WWII as an Army Marine Engineer and was involved in the landing on Omaha Beach, taking shrapnel, and earned 2 battle stars. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion, Amvets and the Elks. Charlie was Vice President and plant manager of Nucraft Furniture Co. and later did international consulting work setting up assembly lines in Egypt and the Philippines.  He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, deer hunting, golfing, riding his horses, Boy Scouts, and horse shows. He had a special love for Lake County up north where the family spent many happy times canoeing, boating, camping, sledding, driving around the back roads, hiking around the beaver pond, and shining deer.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Camy, a brother, Robert G., a son, Patrick, and a great granddaughter, Xochitl. He is survived by his current wife Romona; children: Robert C. Allen, Michael (Rose) Allen, Janine Allen; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.  A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, June 13th at 11:00 am at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with Fr. John Vallier presiding. Relatives and friends may meet the family before the mass from 10:00 to 11:00 at the Church. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
