Cathleen Gayle Brummel, age 81, of Marne, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. She was born in Grand Rapids to John and Anna Ruth VanderWoude on August 28, 1944. Cathleen was married to William (Bill) Ralph Brummel on November 22,1963. Cathleen held several jobs throughout her 81 years of life: providing laundry services at various nursing homes, a bus driver for the Rapid, and she briefly spent time as a busser at Russ’. Cathleen attended school to become a medical assistant and would have loved to start a career, however, no one would hire a woman in her mid-40’s. Cathleen’s greatest job of them all was the job she loved the most, raising her five children and even took in a few extra kids. Cathleen was selfless and would continue to give even when she had nothing left. She adored her grandchildren and would do anything for them.
In addition to her parents, Cathleen was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, William (Bill); daughter-in-law, Roxanne Brummel; granddaughter, Alexis Brummel; sisters, Karyn Walker, and Lucinda (Cindy) Puite; several brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law. She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Tom and Shannon Brummel, Bob and Tracey Brummel, Ron Brummel; two daughters, Diane Brummel, and Mary Hartman; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Edward Engle; and several nieces and nephews.
