Carolyn Hagedorn was welcomed into her heavenly home at the age 86 on August 1, 2018. Her strong faith in God and assurance that she belonged to Christ brought her through life’s joys and struggles, ultimately giving her the peace that passes all understanding. Carolyn was born on August 19, 1931 in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Julius Vroon and Carrie (Zuidema) Vroon. The youngest of three daughters, Carolyn spent her childhood between Florida and New Jersey with her sisters, Margaret and Ethel. She married the late Garrett Hagedorn in 1951 and they spent many happy years together. They had five children: Richard, Jewel, Judi, Dale, and Darryl. Carolyn was a devoted wife and mother, and an active participant in her church. After moving to Brevard, North Carolina, she regularly volunteered with her friends and neighbors. Carolyn greatly enjoyed being with her family, particularly in her role as a grandma. From the first grandchild to the 17th, she provided love, support and prayers for each one of them. A visit to her house would be met with a glass of iced tea, a Taylor ham sandwich and her famous chicken casserole or shepherd’s pie. Always organized, she remembered to send a handwritten note or text for every family member’s birthday. This became a mounting feat as 18 great-grandchildren were added to the family. Carolyn will be forever remembered by family and friends, her children, their spouses, grandchildren, and her growing family of great-grandchildren. Friends and family will gather to celebrate her life on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Sunset Manor in the chapel (725 Baldwin St., Jenison).
