Carol Somers

Carol Lynn Somers, age 81, of Hudsonville, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, with her loving family by her side on Saturday, July 19, 2025, and is now rejoicing in Glory. Carol had a warm and gentle spirit and was known for her sweet and caring nature. She found joy in knitting scarves, hats, and baby blankets—each piece made with love. Her infectious smile could brighten any room, and her calm demeanor brought comfort to those around her. Deeply devoted to her family, Carol cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. She loved the warmth of the sun, relaxing at the beach, her morning coffee on the porch, and the simple comforts of home. Her faith in God was the foundation of her life, and she lived it out through everything she did.

She was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Robert Longstreet, Kenneth Somers, and John Somers. Carol will be lovingly remembered by her husband, of 59 years, Leonard Somers; children, Kim and Joel Van Wyngarden, Len and Marsha Somers, Jeff and Jennifer Somers; grandchildren, Katie and Dan Meengs, Josh and Ingrid Van Wyngarden, Andrew Van Wyngarden, Eric and Lauren Somers, Seth and Hannah Somers, Michaela Somers, Kyle and Lindy Somers, Madie Somers, Tyler and Emily Somers, Alaina Somers; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Raelyn, Matteo, Henry, and Malachi; siblings, Mary Longstreet, Theron and Ruth Van Putten, twin sister, Sheryle Van Putten; sisters-in-law, Beth Somers, Judy Somers; and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Hillcrest Christian Reformed Church, 3617 Hillcrest Rd., Hudsonville with Rev. Curt Walters officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont, MI. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Wednesday, July 23 from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. An additional time of visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Thursday at church prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Hillcrest CRC Benevolence Fund.
