C. Joy Teitsma

C. Joy Teitsma, age 82, of Grand Rapids passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Marie Wiersma; and sister-in-law, Ann Wiersma. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Tammy and Ron Schollaart, Tom and Rocky Teitsma; grandchildren, Kyle and Amanda Schollaart, Chad Schollaart and Chrissie Oken, Tom Jr. and Rachael Teitsma, Keegan and Jordan Teitsma, Brad Teitsma, Chris and Maria Teitsma, Kendall Teitsma; eleven great-grandchildren; siblings, Harry (Butch) Wiersma, Ruth and Larry Crossman, Esther and Paul Brandt, Dan and ZuEllen Wiersma; several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Joy enjoyed knitting, often with a cat on her lap, afghan blankets and giving them away. She would read books, once again with a cat on her lap, as often as she could, particularly historical fiction and the Classics. Her working career was spent in the Commercial Insurance industry serving in Client Customer Service. She was very involved in organizations that help and empower women. The family is so grateful for the love and care shown from the care team at StoryPoint (Rockford). Memorial services will be held at 3:30 pm on Sunday, October 13 at MKD Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, with Rev. Olivia Stewart-Shoemaker officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 1-3 pm at the funeral chapel. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Kent County Literacy Council or the Women’s Resource Center.
