Carl De Jong, age 78, of Grandville, passed from this adventurous life into life eternal with his Savior on Monday, November 13, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Gloria. Carl will be lovingly remembered by his children, Laurie Zuverink, Chris and Jeff Casemier, Mark Zuverink; grandchildren, Ashley Zuverink and James Hainstock, Aaron Zuverink, Annika Zuverink and fiance John Quam, Elena Casemier, Jae Casemier; siblings, Del and Carol De Jong, Sharlene and Peter Jouwstra, Alan and Faith De Jong; sisters-in-law, Mary and Michael Vosovic, Cheryl and Donley De Groot; and several nieces and nephews. Carl’s adventurous spirit had him always busy doing something. Early in his life, Carl spent several years traveling the world as a naval aviator in the Marine Corps, flying an EA-6 off aircraft carriers. He loved to learn, loved supporting his grandkids endeavors, and loved spending summers at Sandy Pines playing golf and pickleball. He was heavily involved with the Riverbend Model Railroad Club, and WPS of Grand Rapids. In the last few years once again became a world traveler enjoying trips with Road Scholar to places like Peru, Australia, and South Africa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Brandon Haan, officiating. Burial will take place at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday, November 17 from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Grandville Calvin Christian or Faith Hospice.
