
Carl Allen Haverdink, age 84, of Jenison, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 26, 2023. Carl demonstrated what it looked like to lead with humility, generosity, and with a servant’s heart. He served in the US Army as well as on the Jenison Christian school board, and as deacon and elder at his church. A master electrician, he started his career with Windemuller Electric and co-founded Excel Electric in 1983. Carl will be missed by many for his deep and intentional friendships and his sense of humor that he carried to the end. He loved traveling, golfing and hunting, but most of all, Carl cherished spending time with his family. He enjoyed supporting his grandkids whether attending sports, musicals, concerts, or activities. Carl will be especially missed for his humble and encouraging leadership as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice Haverdink, son, Chad Haverdink; siblings-in-law: Lee Schild, Jan Haverdink, Fran Haverdink, Marvin and Verna Bremer, Nelson and Myrtle Verbeek, Shirley Lambers. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Donna; children, Dean and Jani Haverdink, Kip and Pam Haverdink; grandchildren: Carleigh (Zach) Ashenfelter, Courtney (Jack) Nixon, Jared Haverdink, Caitlin Haverdink, Connor Haverdink, K.J. Haverdink, Mia (Cameron) VanDyken, Aliya Haverdink; siblings: Wayne Haverdink, Marian Schild, Ken (Cheryl) Haverdink, Gord Haverdink, Barb (Bill) Peuler, Audrey (Randy) Palmitier; brother-in-law, Will Lambers; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 6 pm on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Baldwin St. Christian Reformed Church, 2101 Baldwin St. Jenison with Pastor Don VanSlyke officiating. Burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday, March 28 from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and Wednesday from 5-6 pm prior to the service at church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Unity Christian High School Expansion Fund.
