
Calvin E. Telman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went home to glory on August 29, 2020. He was born to Jennie and Christian Telman on July 19, 1926. He attended Southwest Christian School and Grand Rapids Christian High School, graduating in 1944. Cal served in the US Navy during World War II, returning home from active duty in June of 1946. He began working for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier with the Wyoming station and finished his 42 year career at the Kentwood Post Office. Cal also worked part-time at Park Center Bowling Lanes for more than 30 years. Cal was a member of Eighth Reformed Church, where he served as both elder and deacon, and was a member of the choir for many years. In April of 1947, he married the love of his life, Lois, who preceded him in death. They were married for nearly 73 years. They were blessed with two children, Wayne (Frances) Telman, Beth Ann (Monty) Coalter. Cal is also survived by his grandsons, Douglas (Kim) Telman, Trevor (Carolina) Telman, and their mother, Janet Robison; granddaughters, Katelyn Backowski, Allison (Max) Catanese; four great-grandchildren, Tristan, Aidan, Grayson, and Nathan Calvin Telman. Cal was preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Henry Telman, and a sister-in-law, Delores Bottum. He will be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Eugene and Carol; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ann Telman, Clarence (Bud) Bottum, Tom and Karen Bottum; many special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville, with Reverend Harry Koops officiating. Burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
