Bruce Van Dyke

Bruce Van Dyke, age 86, beloved husband, dad and grandpa passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 9, 2025. He was born and raised in Grand Rapids. Bruce will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Margaret “Peg”; children, David and Jennifer Van Dyke, Maria and Mike Walcott, Barb and Tom Holwerda; grandchildren, Katie (fiancé, Justin Walkup) and Gabe Van Dyke, Isaac, Isabelle, Samuel, Dorothy, Grace, Joy, and Hannah Holwerda; brothers, Karl (Connie) Van Dyke, Phil (Irene) Van Dyke; sisters-in-law, Mary (Bruce) Okkema and Barb Van Haste; former sister-in-law, Chris Caughey; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Dorothy Van Dyke; in-laws, Robert and Jean Broersma; granddaughter, Ruth Holwerda; sister-in-law, Nan Van Dyke; brothers-in-law, Robert Broersma, Thomas Broersma, Charles Broersma and S. John Van Haste. Bruce was a nature lover and an avid rock collector. He spent many hours combing Lake Michigan beaches (and sometimes parking lots) for the perfect rock. Bruce was a longtime member of Church of the Servant and also attended Mars Hill Bible Church. He enjoyed volunteering his time at various organizations including DeColores Ministries of Grand Rapids, St. Cecilia Music Center and Grand Rapids Public Museum. In his later years, Bruce worked as a driver at Kent Communications (KCI) where he met many wonderful people on his routes. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 22 at Church of the Servant, 3835 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids with light refreshments to follow. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Mel Trotter Ministries or DeColores Ministries of Grand Rapids.
