Brian Albert Chivis

​Brian Chivis, age 54, of Wyoming, passed away suddenly in his sleep on Saturday, March 11, 2023. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 22 years, Jennifer; sisters and brothers, Linda Chivis, Gary and Jeanne Chivis, Dennis Chivis, Diane Heibel, Yvonne Chivis, and extended family; he was regarded very highly by all of his many nieces, nephews, friends, and their families. Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Maxine Chivis; brother, Fred Chivis Jr. He was proud of his Native American heritage and was a member of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi. He was a member of Grand Rapids Lodge #34 Masonic Lodge in Grand Rapids, MI. Brian was a graduate of Godwin Heights High School and Grand Valley State University. He enjoyed coaching high school football and was a volunteer coach at Kelloggsville High School. He was a diehard U of M fan. Brian was the Grand Rapids director for the Inter Tribal Council of Michigan Head Start from 2003 to 2018. He served his family, friends, and community well throughout his lifetime and his wit and charm will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank all the kind well wishers. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1:00 pm at MKD Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Saturday from 12:00-1:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
