Brandon James Schmidt

Brandon James Schmidt, age 20, of Allendale passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, August 15, 2018. He was a bright star still looking for his calling. Throughout his childhood, he was active in sports, playing baseball, soccer, football and by the age of 10 was a self-described fighting machine after winning a boxing state championship. If forced to find something at which he was not talented, it would have to be dancing. However, that did not stop him from doing it deliberately – as if no one was watching, even when he knew we were. Brandon loved music, sleeping, shoes and, surprisingly, broccoli. He had a heart of gold, but was also the oldest of 9 siblings and an incessant antagonist – the only thing Brandon loved more than his siblings’ screams were those of his mother. In the end, like the singer he was almost named after, this star burnt out instead of fading away. Loved dearly by all, Brandon was preceded in death by his beloved Aunt, Ashlie, and leaves behind his mother, Brandi; his father, James; his step-mother, Amber; his siblings, Jazmyn, Dominic, Kaleb, Elijah, Meyah, JJ, Aleyah and Lilly; his grandparents; his great grandparents; his aunts, uncles and more cousins than he could remember; boxing coaches, baseball teammates and an extended family that included everyone he met. A memorial mass will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at St. Luke University Parish, 10144 42nd Avenue, Georgetown Township, with Fr. Bill Vander Werff officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the family to help with funeral expenses.
