Bertus Henry Wierenga

Bertus Henry “Bert” Wierenga, age 93, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 19, 2022, surrounded by his family. Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa “Tress”; son, Steve; and daughter, Sandy. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Sue and Joe Zomerlei, Sally and Chris Kwekel; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Terri Zomerlei and Peter Kamhout (Greta and Sigrid), Lori and John Hernandez (Joseph and Elisa), Scott and Jacquelyn Zomerlei (Maxine), Randy Wierenga (Baylie, Trevor, Kayden), Allysha, and Shayla Kwekel. His greatest love, and he felt his greatest accomplishment, was all of his grandchildren - it’s what he enjoyed most - being a grandpa. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday, March 22 from 6-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Funeral services will take place at 11 am on Wednesday, March 23 at the funeral home with Pastor Hank Vlaardingerbroek officiating. An additional hour of visitation will be held prior to the service. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Hospice or Sunset Legacy Foundation.
