
We as a family want to give thanks to God for blessing our mother, Bernice Zwart, with 102 years of life. Bernice passed away peacefully at her home at Waterford Place in Jenison, on Monday, October 5, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Derk E. Zwart; son-in-law, Albert Reitsma III; and granddaughter-in-law, Cindra Zwart. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Rev. Eildert D. and Mary Etta Zwart, Joan (Reitsma) and Anthony Hooyer; grandchildren, Derk Zwart and his fiancée, Jennifer Bos, Rebecca Zwart, Sara Zwart, Patricia and Brian Scholtens, Craig and Jessica Reitsma, Christina and Jarred Baker; her great-grandchildren, Eildert and Jocelyn, Ermithe, Owen, and Destinee Zwart, Kaileanna, and Ryker Scholtens, Isaac, Luke, and Jake Reitsma, Drew, and Bryson Baker; sisters-in-law, Minnie Zwart and Sharon Zwart; and many nieces and nephews. Bernice was blessed with a strong work ethic and began working, at age eleven, full-time in childcare and retired from part-time employment, at age 80, from Grandville Printing. At the time of her passing, she was a member of the Cornerstone United Reformed Church in Hudsonville. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with her son, Rev. Eildert Zwart officiating. The burial will take place at Winchester Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, October 15, from 4-7 p.m. and Friday from 12-12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Masks will be required at the visitation and the service.
