
Barbara (Baker) Reed of Jenison, formerly from Spring Lake, was born August 3, 1938, in Muskegon, MI and she died on Friday June 2, 2023. She was 84 years old. Barb was the daughter of Harold and Ruth Baker. She had a lifetime love of music playing cello in Muskegon High School, then at Michigan State. Later she played in the Lansing, Grand Rapids, West Shore, and Holland Symphonies. She played the organ and piano and served in the leadership of different church congregations through the years. Barb received a BA in education at MSU, and an MA in AVMedia from WMU and had a 10-year career as a media specialist in Byron Center and Kentwood Public Schools. She celebrated 43 years of marriage to R. Douglas Reed who was an Air Force pilot and educator. Doug preceded her in death in 2005. Several years later Barb met and married Bill Boynton and began a new adventure living on a houseboat on the Grand River and acting as a hostess on the Grand Lady Riverboat. Barb had a strong and secure faith and hope in the Lord. She is survived by her husband, Bill Boynton, of Jenison, her daughters, Brenda Pugh, of Grand Rapids, Julie Farmen (Ken) of Port Orchard, WA, and Diane Carrouth (Sean) of Fort Mill, SC; her brother, Bruce Baker (Paula) of North Muskegon; Bill’s two sons, Greg Boynton, of Jenison, and Steve Boynton, of Hawaii. She also has ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be given to Mel Trotter Ministries, or the Muskegon Rescue Mission. A memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Fellowship, 1260 Chicago Dr, Jenison, MI 49428 at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2023.
