Arnold “Arnie” Robert Werkema, age 90, of Byron Center, was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, June 25, 2023, where he was reunited with the love of his life for over 70 years, Jean. Arnie was a faithful servant of God. He was a generous, warm, loving, caring husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He brought joy and smiles to anyone he came in contact with. Arnie enjoyed serving as a Volunteer Firefighter for 15 years, where he picked up his nickname, “Freddy the Fireman.” He enjoyed many visits with special family members Harry, Laura, Chuck and Yvonne. Arnie will be greatly missed for his smile, kind heart, and love for his family. Arnie was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; son, Dennis Werkema, parents and siblings. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Arnold (Deb) Werkema, Ann (Richard Jr.) Morton; daughter-in-law, Vickie Werkema; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Evie) Werkema and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Burial will take place at Rosedale Memorial Park.
