July 2, 2026

Shirley Ann (Boer) Van Neuren, age 88, of Jenison, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Shirley was born to the late Harvey and Ima Boer in Grand Rapids, and was raised in Jenison, attending Grandville Schools, graduating in 1955. She was proud of her country upbringing, a foundation that shaped her hardworking spirit, deep appreciation for family, and love of life's simple pleasures. Family was at the center of everything she did, and she cherished every opportunity to gather with those she loved, especially at family reunions and the treasured holiday celebrations she so carefully helped create.

A devoted mother, she was actively involved at her children's school, Bauerwood Elementary, generously sharing her time and talents in countless ways, including as a dedicated member of the Mothers’ Club. She found great joy in supporting her children's education and helping build a strong sense of community for other families.

Adventurous by nature, she embraced every opportunity to explore the world, traveling to many countries over the years and delighting in memorable riverboat cruises. Her love of cooking was evident both at home and professionally, serving as a chef aboard the Grand Lady Riverboat in Jenison, where she shared her talent and warm hospitality with countless guests. Whether preparing a special holiday meal or tending to her garden, she found joy in creating beauty, nourishing others, and bringing people together.

She also had a special love for Elvis Presley and his music, and one of the highlights of her life was having the privilege of attending one of his final concerts. Her adventurous spirit, generous heart, devotion to her family, and gift for making others feel welcomed and loved will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jill VanderLoon, Marc and Lucy Van Neuren; grandchildren, Christopher VanderLoon, Anna VanderLoon; her loving fur babies, Cali, Jack, and Sage; several loving extended family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Chaplain Caleb Walcott officiating. The burial will be held at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Friday, July 24, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Harbor Humane Society or to Degage Ministries
