Arlan Matthysse

Arlan Ray Matthysse, age 81, of Hudsonville, went to his eternal home on December 19, 2024. Arlan was a man of strong faith and character that was blessed with a gentle and kind spirit. He was a graduate of Unity Christian High School and Ferris State University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Korea. Over the years, Arlan actively served both his church and community in various ways. He was best known for his love for Southern gospel music, sang in various choirs and ensembles, and was a founding member of the Heritage Singing Men. His greatest treasure however, was his family. He always looked forward to supporting them in all of their activities. Arlan will be remembered for his care and love for others. He knew how to make people laugh and brought kindness to everyone he knew and met. He was preceded in death by his infant grandson, Aidan Flipse. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Elayne (Huizenga); children, Mike and Lisa Matthysse, Lisa and Ryan Flipse, Ryan and Susan Matthysse; grandchildren, Lorissa and Brian Schrems, Kylie and Michael Stone, Shelby Matthysse, Collin and Selah Flipse, Maya, Nolan, and Addie Flipse, Ella, Preston, and Cleo Matthysse; great-grandson, Zander Schrems; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Pat Matthysse; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary and Dave Weeber, Dr. Robert and Anita Huizenga, Rick and Deb Huizenga; several loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 30, at 11 a.m. at Cottonwood Church, 1101 Cypress St., Jenison, with Rev. Matthew Palsrok officiating. Interment will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Sunday, December 29, from 3-6 p.m. at MKD Jamestown Chapel, 2371 Riley St., Hudsonville, and also on Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be given to Jenison Christian School or Unity Christian High School Music Department
