Anthony “Tony” Schmitt Sr., age 68, formerly of Grand Rapids, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, July 1, 2022. Tony was a kind, devoted and loving husband, dad, and grandpa who dearly loved his family and had a special love for his grandchildren. He was born and raised in Grand Rapids and most recently worked for Kentwood Packaging as a truck driver. He loved working there and made many lasting friendships. Tony enjoyed the outdoors, especially working in his yard and tending his gardens. He also had a love for cars and motorcycles. Tony is now reunited with his daughter, Missy, who he dearly missed and long to be with. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Margaret; his children, Anthony “TJ” and Anna Schmitt, Jeremiah Schmitt, Jeanette and Todd Gregg; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, sisters, and loving extended family members. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 2 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial will take place at Kent Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet his family from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
