March 29, 2021

Amy Joy (Veldkamp) DeKock, age 38, of Hudsonville, was called into the presence of her Lord and Savior after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Amy was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt who lived her life by example. Her caring and selfless nature who always put others before herself was evident to all who knew her. Amy graduated from Grand Valley State University with her Master’s Degree, and worked as a CPA for five years at Plante Moran. She then moved to Chicago to work for Harpo Productions before moving back to Grand Rapids in 2011 where she married the love of her life, Scott. Amy continued her career at Mars Hill Bible Church as the Executive Director where she was also actively involved in ministry programs. She volunteered her time in many ways in the community but was most passionate about opening her heart and her home to numerous foster children. Above all, her biggest blessing in life was to love on her three children. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Scott; children, Rylin, Gunnar, and Crew; her parents, Roger and Carol Veldkamp, her parents-in-law, Al and Ruth DeKock; her siblings, Sara and Mike VanderWoude, David and Rachael Veldkamp; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Brad and Marla DeKock, Jeff DeKock; grandparents, William Kamstra, Vivian Veldkamp; and her beloved foster child, Wyatt. She will also be remembered by many loving extended family members. A celebration of Amy’s life will be held at 11 am on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Mars Hill Bible Church, 3501 Fairlanes Ave SW, Grandville (Please enter through West doors), with Pastors Eric Nichols and Tim Nelson officiating. Burial Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and also on Thursday from 10-10:45 am prior to the service at Mars Hill Bible Church.

In order to bless Rylin, Gunnar, and Crew, as they grow and to preserve Amy’s memory, we need your help. We would cherish it so if you could write a card to each of the kids sharing memories and your favorite traits about Amy, their precious mom. There will be three boxes at the funeral to put cards in. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Grandville Christian School. Condolences may be sent online at www.mkdfuneralhome.com.
