AJ Ponstein

Arthur Joseph “AJ” Ponstein, age 60, of Grand Rapids passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023. Lovingly known as “Coach”, AJ was involved in coaching football at Jackson Park, Rogers and Godwin Schools and baseball at Pinery Park. AJ could make friends with anyone and will be remembered for his generosity. He’d give his last dollar and the shirt off of his back to anyone in need. He was able to make an impact in his community working as a Director of Security until his retirement. As an outdoorsman, he loved yearly trips with his family to Missinaibi, Canada where they would camp and fish. He had the ability to strike up conversation and establish connections with everyone. AJ will be especially missed for his selfless nature and ability to make a positive impact on the world around him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Evelyn Ponstein. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Nick (Corinne) Ponstein, Brooke (Rusty) Ponstein, Tyler Ponstein; grandchildren, Molly, Carter, Jacob, Brody; two beloved dogs, Liza and Sadie; three siblings and many nieces and nephews. AJ’s family plans to hold a celebration of his life at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to The Humane Society of West Michigan.
