Agnes M. Cheyne, age 98, of Byron Center, was called to her heavenly home on Friday, September 11, 2026. She was born in Byron Center, Michigan, to the late Burr and Clara Cheyne. Agnes was blessed with an independent spirit and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. You always knew when Agnes entered the room, as she was sure to greet you with one of her famous “Agnes hugs”! Agnes dedicated her life to nursing and caring for others. She spent many years working in the Emergency Room at St. Mary’s Hospital before continuing her career at St. Anne’s Home, where she eventually retired. Over the years, she enjoyed crocheting and genealogy and was very proud of her Scottish heritage, keeping in touch with family and friends there. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lyle Cheyne, and Denzel Cheyne; and sisters, Edna Cheyne, Edith Bauer, and Ruth Lavene. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Tommy Boutell officiating.
