Melissa Ann (Jones) Modderman, age 44, of Allendale, was called home to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, December 7, 2018. Melissa was a loving wife, mother, sister, and daughter who was a light to everyone she came in contact with. After graduating from Allendale High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Joe. Together they lived an adventurous life, taking them to Iowa, Spain, Portugal, and then back home to Allendale, Michigan. Melissa loved everyone she met and was fueled by her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Joe; their children, Brooke, Grace, JJ, and Bailey; parents, Doug and Cheryl Jones; brothers, Eric (Jessica), Matt (Nicole), and Nick (Courtney); parents-in-law, Roger and Lynda Modderman; as well as many other family members and friends. The celebration of her beautiful life will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Life Stream Church, 6561 Lake Michigan Dr., Allendale, MI. Interment will be held at Allendale Township Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 6651 Scott St., Allendale.  An additional visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Life Stream Church.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Joe Modderman. Joe will be establishing a college fund for the children and making a donation to the charities near and dear to Melissa’s heart.

Joe, I'm so sorry for your loss. I had no idea Melissa was battling breast cancer. Your family is and will be in our prayers. I only spoke to your wife on a couple of occasions, but she was the nicest, sweetest, prettiest girl and she treated me like an old friend. I'm sorry she's gone, but I'm happy she's with the Lord. Please let us know if there is any way we can be of help at this or any time. Blessings on you and the kids.

We grieve deeply, now - but we will see her again. Melissa left a little bit of her sparkle on everyone she came in contact with. She changed me, for the better, and I will live my life better because of her. She is one of my best friends - my soul sister. I look forward to seeing her on our next (and last) big adventure. In the meantime, I pray for comfort, peace and joy to return to those most suffering from her loss. Joe, Brooke, Grace, JJ, Bailey, Doug & Cheryl... I will continue to lift you up in prayer.
