Clarence “Clare” N. Hemmes, age 86, of Wyoming went to be with his Lord on Monday, August 13, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Clare will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Carol; daughters, Denise and Brian Herrema, Michelle Owsinski, Kari and Kevin Povenz, Lisa Wieland; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Frieda Minnaar, Joan and Will Sweeris; brother and sister-in-law, Russ and Doris VerMerris; sister-in-law, Ruth VerMerris; and many nieces and nephews. Clare proudly served our country as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the Battleship USS Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2018, at Lee Street Christian Reformed Church, 1261 Lee Street, Wyoming, with Pastor Kent Rottman officiating. Interment Kent Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Lee Street CRC or Potter’s House Christian School.
