Roberta “Bobby” Scripsema

Roberta “Bobby” Louise Scripsema, age 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 25, 2019. She was born on September 17, 1924, in Emmett, Idaho. Bobby was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Robert “Bob” Scripsema; mother and stepfather, Mary (Cruickshank-Goul) and Lue Ihrig of Horseshoe Bend, ID; sister, Kathleen Farmer of Berkeley, CA; great-granddaughter, Nadia French; sister-in-law, Fran (Hank) Christians; and brother-in-law, Don (Arlene) Scripsema. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Rob) Umstead; son, Paul (Karen) Scripsema; grandchildren, Nathan (Vanessa) Umstead and great-grandson, Daniel; Emily (Paul) Pearson and great-grandchildren, Miles, Naomi and Charlotte; Megan (Mark) Williams and great-grandchildren, Reese and Loui; Kaitlin (Bryant) DeKruyter; Elysia (Justin) French and great-grandchildren, Isabell and Leila; and Ashley (Ryan) VanRavenswaay and great-grandson, Luca; her brother, HC (Jo) Goul; and her brother-in-law, Len (Lois) Scripsema. Bobby grew up in Idaho, graduated from Boise High School in 1943, attended Boise Junior College (now Boise State University) and graduated from Armstrong College in Berkeley, CA. Bobby met Bob, the love of her life, at the USO on the Boise airbase where he was stationed during World War II. They both loved to dance and made incredible partners. They were married in 1949, moved to Michigan, Bob’s home state, and established their home in East Grand Rapids. Bobby worked many years for the Sears Catalog Division, was active in the women’s association at church and served as a group leader with Bible Study Fellowship.  She loved the Rocky Mountains and made numerous visits to her parents’ cattle ranch in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho. She was a Detroit Tiger fan and animal lover; butterflies especially. Most importantly, she was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Bob and Bobby were charter members of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and later in life attended Calvary Church of Grand Rapids. Always faithful to her Lord, she would continually pray that all would come to know Christ as she had. A graveside service for friends and family will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. at Grandville Cemetery.  A luncheon will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the MKD Reception and Event Center at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville.
