Maurice John Gurd

Maurice John Gurd, age 70 of Kentwood, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, November 29, 2019.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his niece.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Cynthia; his children, Shane Gurd, Ryan (Brooke) Gurd, Jason Gurd; sisters, Pamela Gurd, Betty Gail Campbell, Sue Lynn Wiersema; nine grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.  Maurice was a loving, caring, husband, father, and grandfather.  Maurice and Cindy were loving, giving people who took in over 90 foster children during the course of their lives.  Some of them still are in contact with the family and call them “mom and dad.”  Morrie loved the Detroit Tigers and drag racing at Martin and Stanton with the boys.  He enjoyed eating out with Cindy on Friday evening and having a burrito or steak.  Maurice valiantly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  Funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Kentwood) 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, with Pastor Justin Smith officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon prior to the service.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan.
