Lorraine “Lorrie” Bawden

Lorraine (Lorrie) Arlene Bawden (Werkema), born February 1, 1939, fulfilled her life’s work here on earth earning her a place in glory on Thursday, July 14, 2016. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 26 years, Norbert (Moe) Mrozinski; parents, Rev. Sidney and Lillian Werkema; brother, Nelson Werkema and stepson, Randy Mrozinski.  Lorrie leaves behind a large and diverse family that she loved unconditionally; her dear husband of 9 years, Edward Bawden; children, Scott (Lynn) Vander Ark, Jeff (Kelly) Vander Ark, Brian (Lux) Vander Ark, Lori (Brad) Marthens, Brad (Jessica) Vander Ark, Mike (Kara) Mrozinski; 39 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her memory will also be cherished by her siblings, Jack (Arlene) Werkema, Gordon (Jackie) Werkema, Esther (Casey) Vanden Berg, Carol Werkema, Jean (Gord) VanHouten and David Werkema. She is also survived by countless nieces and nephews and her stepchildren, Kathryn, Paula, Jim, Tom, Tammi, Toni, Mark and their families. Lorrie lived her life as a near perfect example of grace. From this we know her Lord and Savior welcomed her into his gates telling her “Well done, thy good and faithful servant” and now “It is well with your soul”.  Funeral services will be held 11 am on Monday, July 18, at Faith United Methodist Church, 2600 7th St NW, Grand Rapids. Interment will be held at Coman Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday, July 17, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf (Grandville) and Monday from 10-11 am prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith United Methodist Church Music Ministry or D.A. Blodgett St. John’s Foster Care Department.

A loss like this puts a big hole in your heart. Those that have not experienced the loss of a mother cannot really know the pain. The pain stays but you will learn to live with it better as time goes by. I am so sorry for your loss, my heart knows the pain. You will get through it but it does take time. This is where leaning on or Lord comes in greatly. My God be with you through this time of sorrow.

Another brilliantly shining Star has been added to the Heaven Host. She opened her heart and arms to us as part of her vastly extended family.
