Lois Marian Oosterman

Lois Marian Peterson Oosterman, age 90, of Kentwood, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 17, 2018. Lois was born on October 17, 1927, to John and Laura Peterson in Worcester, Massachusetts. Lois was a woman who, throughout her life and as a result of many moves, opened her home to many which meant she had friends from all over the country. She loved to cook and had the gift of making strangers feel comfortable quickly and like they were a part of the family. She also had a heart for children in the foster care system and those who had struggles in this life. As a result, she was a group home mom to many young girls. While she might have appeared to rule with a strong hand, the result was getting letters of thanks from the girls for her influence in their lives, support that enabled them to get college degrees and have wonderful families of their own. Her ability to remember was one to be envied as she accurately remembered all her families/friends special dates and occasions. Surviving are her children, Barb and Jerry Schutte, Laura and Randy Young, Julie Oosterman, Jane and Bruce Hager, Jim and Jane Oosterman, John and Lori Oosterman; 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, June and Rollie Myers; brother, Lee and Cynthia Peterson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Sidney Oosterman; son, Stephan Oosterman; 3 brothers; 5 sisters and their spouses; as well as 2 brothers-in-law and a sister-in­law. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2018, Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW with Dr. Kevin Schutte officiating. Interment Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
