Jacob James Bouwman Jr., age 82, of Jenison was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, and is now singing in the choir triumphant. Jake was the former owner of Zeeland Jewelers until his retirement. He was blessed with the gift of music which gave him great joy, and would sing at every opportunity given to him. Jake enjoyed singing in the White Shirt Brigade, 12th Avenue CRC choir, Heritage Singing Men and the Gospel Ambassadors Quartet. He was a Korean War veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Jake will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen (VanLeeuwen); children, Scott and Lori Bouwman, Brian Bouwman, Kurt and Ammie Bouwman; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Michael and Leanne Bouwman (Jacob, Owen), David and Mallory Bouwman, Amber and Matthew Lubbers (Audrey), Marshall and Katey Bouwman, Benjamin Bouwman and fiancee Jenna, Jake and Grace Walters, Jessie Walters; sisters, Shirley and Merl Waayenberg, Jan and Al King; many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2018, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Drive SW, with Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Interment Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 3-6 p.m. and also Monday from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Because of the compassionate care given to Jake, the family suggests that memorial contributions be given to Faith Hospice - Trillium Woods.
