Gerald (Jer) D. Huene

Gerald (Jer) D. Huene, 80, of Hudsonville, MI passed away peacefully on January 12, 2020, to be with his Lord and Savior.  He was born in Chicago, IL on 7/21/1939, one of three children living in the Chicago area suburbs, before moving to Grand Rapids, MI in 2001, to be nearer his children and grandchildren.  During his lifetime, he worked in the telecommunications industry as an electrical engineer for several companies including: Kleinschmidt, Extel, Multi-Graphics, Charles Industries, and Sima.  After retirement, Jerry continued to work part-time in the men’s department at Younkers and later volunteered at Love in the Name of Christ, rejuvenating donated electronic equipment in the re-sale Shop.  Most of all, Jerry loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.  A favorite was going out to an Italian restaurant or for a good steak, but he particularly loved a Portillo’s Italian Beef.  He loved to make his home-made BBQ sauce and grilled chicken and potatoes in the summer or a good pot of vegetable beef soup in the winter.  His definite passion was listening to music and bass fishing on his boat.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Zelma (Meyer) and Alphonse Huene. He is survived by his sisters, Carol Klebeck (Houston, TX) and Judy Mesch (Wheaton, IL); his children, Michael Huene and Deborah Nunez-Rodriguez; his grandchildren, Nathan and Joshua Huene, all of Grand Rapids; his niece, Tara Farley (Irving, TX); and several nephews, Todd Mesch (Chicago, IL), Dan Klebeck (Houston, TX), David Klebeck (Lawrence, KS), and Paul Klebeck (Doylestown, PA).  Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 12 noon at Holy Redeemer Parish, 2700 Baldwin St., Jenison, MI 49428, with a time for visiting for family and friends from 11am to 11:45 am prior to the Mass at Church.
