Genevieve Lois Timmermans

Genevieve Lois Timmermans, age 93, of Grandville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2020. Lois (nee Reminga) is survived by her children, Susan (Daryl) Vogel and Steven (Barb) Timmermans; grandchildren, Katie (Ben) Brower, Paul Timmermans, Stephanie Vogel (Nicholas Hafner), Yaineabeba Tadese (Sam Lankah), Becca Timmermans (Abel Teshome), Jessica (Christopher) Colvin, Getenet (Bethilehem) Timmermans, and Fekadu Timmermans; step-grandchildren, Rachel (Brent) Cunningham and Tim (Stacy) Vogel; great-grandchildren, Aser and Bemnet Lankah and Yeelshady Timmermans; step-great-grandchildren, Noah, Jacob and Megan Cunningham; sisters-in-law, Lillian Oosterhouse, Lois Timmermans, and Francis Timmermans. Lois’s husband, Conrad John “Bill” Timmermans with whom she enjoyed 64 years of marriage; parents, Tom and Marguerite (Wolma) Reminga; and brother, Thomas (and his wife, Ruth) predeceased her, as well as a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Lois was born in Grandville, grew up there, and lived most of her life there. She graduated from Grandville High School, and instead of attending college, worked at Hayes Corporation in the WWII effort.  Baptized at First Jenison CRC, married September 30, 1950 at Hope CRC (where she served as organist), and a member at South Grandville CRC the last 66 years. Lois enjoyed her family—especially her grandchildren who loved her dearly in return, as well as her neighbors and friends, tracing connections among them over the decades. Most importantly, she loved her Lord and Savior, delighting in music (gladly playing each song in the “Lift Up Your Hearts” hymnal when it was released) and enjoying His creation throughout North America and beyond.  The family would be grateful for gifts given in Lois’s honor to the First Fruits Scholarship Fund she and Bill established at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, IL.  A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. John Witvliet officiating.  Interment will be held at Allendale Township Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, January 15, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

My condolences to all of the family. I worked at Covenant Living and was privileged to do Lois's hair the past 4 years. We had many wonderful conversations and always shared her love of Jesus and her children. She shared with me the beautiful picture books you made for her and most memorable were her dreams!. She always brought joy to the beauty salon with her stories. The best story was one night when she woke up with itchy spots on her scalp, she went into the bathroom, found her tube of anti itch cream and rubbed it into her scalp. She ssid she went back to bed and was thankful for the cool, fresh relief she felt, only to find out in the morning she used her tube of toothpaste instead of the anti itch cream!🤣 We all had a good laugh with her! Sue, you kept her dressed beautifully with her pretty tops. I will forever miss her comments every time I washed her hair, "That feels so good!, You give the best shampoos!" My heart is full of love and loss for knowing Lois!❤

Dear Susan & Steve My condolences in the loss of your mom. What a great picture of her. Resembles my grandma Bessie, too. I had a wonderful visit with Lois summer before last when I met her at Covenant Village for lunch. We went back to her apartment and she showed me many family photos and we had a great time reminiscing. I am currently in Florida so unable to attend but know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs, Barb
