David Lee Bos, age 81, of Hudsonville, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020, due to Alzheimer’s. Born in Holland to Henry and Myrtle Bos on September 6, 1938, Dave’s twinkling, mischievous brown eyes, his compassion and good cheer, and his Christian commitment will not be forgotten by his family and friends. He and his wife Nancy (VanRegenmorter) Bos, whom he loved beyond measure, would have been married 59 years on August 4, 2020. He also leaves behind his three children, Michael (Cheryl) Bos of Hudsonville, Jane Bos of Jenison, and Jackie (Doug) Roskamp of Holland; nine grandchildren: David, Christian, and Svetlana Bos,  Catherine “Catie”, Joseph, and Anna Luimes, and Abigail, Danielle, and Victoria “Tori” Roskamp. All of them loved him fiercely, and will miss his gentleness, his subtle, crackling humor, his warm and patient smile, and his upbeat, positive manner. He is also survived by his sister, Dawn (Jerry) Bredeweg of Holland; brother-in-law, Richard Brill of Grandville; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Hubert and Catherine VanRegenmorter of Jamestown; sister, Mary Brill; and siblings-in-law, Roger and Martha VanKlompenberg. Dave graduated from Holland Christian in 1956, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Calvin College (1960) and master’s degree from Michigan State University. He spent 40 years at Unity Christian High School in Hudsonville (1961-2000), touching the lives of more than 7,000 students, and ended his professional career as the O-K Conference assistant commissioner (2000-2010). During his time at Unity, Dave taught physical education, physiology, and history for 32 years, coached boys’ basketball (26 years), baseball (15 years), and cross country (four years), and was the school’s athletic director for 17 years (1983-2000). While an athletic administrator, Dave guided Unity from a 3-year high school with 12 teams to a 4-year high school with 32 teams, including adding a dozen girls’ sports programs. He also was instrumental in beginning the Hudsonville Little League girls’ softball program in 1974, much to the delight of his daughters. His family plans to hold a private, faith-filled graveside service at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Unity Christian High School, 5900 48th Ave., Hudsonville, MI 49426, https://www.unitychristian.org/.

This is a real loss to anybody who knew Dave. I have connections with Dave at several levels. As baseball coach at Hudsonville Public I competed with his teams many times. He was always a pleasure as a coach. During my brief term as athletic director at Hudsonville I had frequent conversations with him. He was very easy to talk to and work with. Then as secretary, at that time, of the OK Conference he helped me finally convince other members of the controlling body that the OK Conference was established in 1958. I have been very grateful of his help. My sympathies are with the family at the loss of a great guy.

Dear Nancy, Jane, Jackie and Mike, Dave was a one of a kind Christian educator, husband, father and friend to so very many. A true example of living a Christ centered life influencing all who were blessed to know him. My most sincere gratitude for everything he did in spreading his educational teaching talents to my kids and so many others. He leaves a wonderful legacy. My deepest sympathies. Joyce A DeVries

One of the standout christian school teacher, coach, administrator and leader has left our midst. He has left his mark on so much of our schools and myriads of students. He lead and showed the way in so much of what he did, My sympathies to Nancy and the family, all of whom are remarkable in their own ways. God be with you.

I was one of Dave's many students at Unity (Class of '71). I was not athletically gifted but he always treated me like I mattered & was a fine example of a Christian educator. Tomorrow, I will be giving thanks to God for his life in my pastoral prayers in the churches that I serve.

I have fond memories of Mr. Boss in school, as so many who commented had. He was a wonderful Christian mentor to so many young men and women in his years at UCHS and after. He had a great and subtle sense of humor which I had an opportunity to experience on a few occasions. What I remember most was the look of surprise on his face when I told him I was joining my dad in practice. Followed immediately by that famous grin and a hearty congratulations. He was a great man and will be missed by many!! My sympathy to his entire family. Steve Verkaik

My sympathy to you, Nancy, Mike, Jane, Jackie, and family. Dave was my 8th grade teacher at Sylvan Christian as well as my colleague at Unity. There was an inscription that I saw about someone's former coach which read, "The impulse of his life will, like a wave, continue to spread for generations." That describes Dave. I'm so happy that I had a chance to visit some time ago and share precious memories. I so wish I could visit again. May God comfort your hearts.

Dave was a servant leader and mentor to so many School administrators in the OK Conference. His calm demeanor and ready smile set the tone for meaningful conversations. Dave's leadership served thousands of student athletes in the OK Conference. Well done good and faithful servant Dave Feenstra OK Conference Commissioner

Mary and I express our sincere sympathy to all of you: Nancy, Jane, Mike & Cheryl, Jackie & Doug. I got to know Dave by painting with him for many summers. Dave was always happy if the job site had a crab apple tree nearby so he could fill his pockets and throughout the day throw them at us or try to get them in our paint buckets. He was also good at painting the backs of our shoes when we were in positions where we couldn’t prevent it. Many fond memories! May God surround you with his love and comfort as you carry on without Dave!

I have great memories of Dave Bos, who was my JV basketball coach at Unity, He proved to be a first rate mentor, and was an excellent leader of young men. I learned much from his teaching. While I rejoice in his grace-given promotion, I am saddened at his loss. I offer deep sympathy to Nancy and the entire Bos family.
