Carol Joan Matice, age 77, of Wyoming, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, June 27, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Irene Fancher. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Tom; children, Tim Matice, Robin (Jeff) Butzer, Christine (Tom) Bischoff, Scott (Melissa) Matice; grandchildren, Chelsea (Frank) Bastien, Emily (Fred) Bennett, Lauren (Dallas Johnston) Butzer, Hayley, Hannah Butzer, Calvin (Jenifer Fitzgerald) Bischoff, Nicholas Bischoff, Madeline and Simone Matice; great grandchildren, Nora, Scarlett, Vivian Bastien, Brooks, Maverick Bennett; sister, Marcia Manke; sister-in-law, Sue (Lee) Williams; brothers-in-law, John, Mike, Dennis Matice; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, Mike (Marge) Bush, John (Linda) Buckley, Mary Kay Goodrich, Deenie Blackford. Carol was a loving, caring, wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.  She maintained the respect and order of her family with a snap of the finger and the “Mom Look.”  She sent the kids to school with hot muffins and had Jiffy pie crust treats for them when they came home.  She never missed the kids’ or grandkids’ sporting events.  Carol was a determined woman who set goals and achieved them, like climbing Mt. Baldy. She loved working at Koeze’s part time for 35 plus years.  Carol was devoted to her church and school, St. John Vianney, serving as librarian and school nurse for several years. The kids and grandkids called her “The Solar Powered Grandma” because of the time she spent soaking up the sun while on vacation in Alabama, and they always looked forward to Christmas Eve at Grandma’s.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 4 at 10 am at St. John Vianney with Fr. John Vallier officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family on Friday, July 3 from 5 -7 pm with a vigil service at 7:00 PM at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home 4031 Clyde Park Ave. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Condolences may be sent online at www.mkdfuneralhome.com.

Matice family You all are a blessing to many. Your children lead by your example. My children loved to have Robin babysit when we were neighbors. I treasured seeing you through the years at SJV and other places. Carol was always smiling, kind, compassionate, caring, loving, positive, honest and a blessing to many. We all should aspire to have those qualities My thoughts are with you on your journey forward Linda Jirous

Tom and family We are so saddened to hear that Carol had passed. We all have such fond memories of growing up knowing such a beautiful family. I remember always seeing you two either at church, walking down the street or many times the good old Cracker Barrel with your beautiful daughter Robin. We certainly enjoyed the conversations we had. We know that Carol will be missed immensely by all of you. You are in our thoughts and prayers. May you find the strength that you will need to help you get through these most difficult of times. It will be through your strong faith and the love of your family and friends. Carol will always be with you through all of your cherished memories shared together. With our deepest of sympathy.

Carol and I worked together at Koezee's when I was in college 35 years ago. They spoiled me with lots of yummy treats while I was working. Over the years, I would stop at the store and carol went out of her way to have a conversation with me. She was so caring and compassionate and remembered details about my family and me. She was a shining light in this world and i am grateful to have known her. Well done good and faithful servant. God Bless.

Dave and I would like to express our sincere condolences to Tom and the entire family. We love Carol like a very, very, very, young Mom. I worked with Carol a Koeze for 10 year's and she made it the best year's of my life, except Tuesdays. She couldn't work Tuesdays because she needed to help Tom feed family's in downtown Grand Rapids. I always told her that "I wanted to be just like her when I grow up". We had always hoped to have Tom and Carol come visit us in Northern Mich. which she said she wanted to every summer. Well, I guess she will be here 24/7 in our thoughts and prayers. Tom, you had the best little woman ever who loved you with ever thing she had. God be with you. Love, Dave and Barb Mauro

Carol you will be missed so much by oh so, so, many people. You were the amazing strong lady that was the captain of “The Matice Ship”. It didn’t move through this world without you constantly nurturing, loving, and steering it through the calmest and the roughest of waters. Your children are all the best people, they learned by example, Tom and you. We all know Tom was your Admiral but he couldn’t do any of it (life) without his captain. Rest In Peace sweet friend it’s now your turn for eternal rest and when you see mom and our Audrey give them big hugs for us! Love you!😘❤️
