I was laying here tonight reminiscing about my short time at Brookwood. We moved when I was in second grade, but the one person I have NEVER forgotten was Mrs Stanley. I went to do a search for to see if I could find her and I ended up here. My heart is broken and I’m so very sorry I didn’t know about this 3 years ago. She was my first grade teacher in 1978/1979. I distinctly recall sitting with her reading the Sally, Dick, and Jane books. Apparently, I was good at reading because when the book fair came around, she insisted on getting me a “Little House on the Prairie” book. She wrote in it: “to the best reader I’ve ever had! You are super! May this be the first book that brings joy into your life. You are beautiful inside and out. Love, Mrs Stanley”. I’ve never forgotten that or McKeaver (spelling), for that matter! One Christmas we ALL got a McKeaver of our very own! I moved to GR for awhile in 1998. I took the time to stop into school and see her once again. I’m so thankful I did. I had to let her know what an impact she had on my life...even though I was 6, I very much remember so many things! I’m forever grateful. <3

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you, the Stanley family. I remember Alice, not only for the insight and thought she gave at our different meetings during the inservice days, but also for the love and devotion she had for her kids when she came to parent-teacher conferences at Valleywood Middle School. May the memories of all the good times you shared with your mom, help sustain you during this difficult time

To the entire Stanley family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Lori, I have hundreds of memories of you and your mom and the easy, loving relationship you always had. It was very apparent. She was such a positive, fun woman. I remember carpooling to gymnastics and putting on shows for her and mostly a lot of laughing. I've missed many years since, but can't forget those times. Thinking about you now - and wishing I could be there. Love you, Renee

Dear Stanley Kids and grandkids, I met your mother my first year teaching the fall of 1973. Your mother was an awesome teacher and I always wanted to be like her. She always made learning fun! I remember one time popping into her room and all of the lights were off. Your mom was lying on her back tracing the letters of the alphabet on the ceiling with a flashlight! All of her little first graders were lying on their backs, enthralled. Although we only taught together for 4 years, I recently got back in touch with her on facebook after almost 40 years! We had a special bond - maybe because we shared the name Alice. You may be interested to know that I went on to teach 30 years before I retired. Cherish the memories, Alice Mohr

Dearest Stanley Family, Good bye dearest Alice, our dear and beloved friend! Our most profound sympathy to your family on the passing of your most wonderful mother, Alice. We were both very close friends of Alice and your dad before they were married and when they initially became married. We cherished our time and visits with Alice and Bill very much. When they moved on from Oswego it was quite a devastating loss for us to have to deal with. We still harbor that void to this day. We will always remember the infectious smile she was able to generate and her love of life in all that she was involved with in her younger days. She was a star, a true gift from God. May God’s blessings envelop her soul and may she rest in eternal happiness in His profound and everlasting love. In all genuine sincerity, Stan & Marianne Kon Oswego, NY
