Leonard “Len” Smit

Leonard “Len” Smit, age 87, of Grandville, fought a brief battle with cancer with great dignity and passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Bob; brother, John; sister-in-law, Elaine DeHaan; brother-in-law, John Wiltjer.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Leonora (Zandbergen) Smit; children, Lori Turnbull, Larry Smit, Doug Smit; grandchildren, Wendy and Jason Bradley, Tim Grifhorst, Heather and Ken Palcowski, Kaitlyn and Auston Pannill; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Henrietta Wiltjer; brother, Ken and Mary Smit; brother-in-law, Roger DeHaan; sister-in-law, Rose Smit; and many nieces and nephews.  Len loved to snowmobile and was snowmobiling until the age of 85. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Newaygo, hunting and fishing. Len enjoyed working with his hands and was a self-employed builder and contractor.  Funeral services will be held Monday, October 7, 2019, 1 pm at First Reformed Church of Grandville, 3060 Wilson Ave SW, 49418, with Pastor Matt Cook officiating.  Interment Grandville Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-5 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, and Monday from 12-1 prior to the service at church.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Wedgwood Christian Services or First Reformed Mission Fund.

So sorry to hear about your Dad passing Larry. I have missed seeing you the past few years. I always think of you and your dad whenever we drive by where the old shop was when we come up to G-ville to visit my parents. Missed finding out about Len's passing until today, so sorry I can't come and see your family.
