Andrea Ruth (Hallett) Scott, age 94, died on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Andrea was born in Highland Park, Michigan, in 1925 to Frank and Eliza (Thayer) Hallett. Andrea grew up in Highland Park and graduated from Olivet College in 1946. At Olivet, Andrea studied under a unique tutorial system, played intramural basketball, learned to hitchhike during the war years, and met her future husband of 68 years through the matchmaking efforts of their music professor. Andrea and Charles Scott married in 1946. Andrea lived with Charles and family in Midland for over thirty years. She was a homemaker, election worker, member of Memorial Presbyterian Church (including serving as an elder and choir member), volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels, member of a bridge club, and (with Charles) part of an informal supper club with many dear friends. Upon retirement, Andrea and Charles lived near Elk Rapids, Michigan, for over 20 years, joining the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City (serving as choir members, volunteers, and members of a small study group consisting of yet another set of dear friends). They also volunteered at the Traverse City chapter of Michigan Blood for many years. Andrea and Charles later moved to Breton Woods in Grand Rapids, where they joined the Mayflower Congregational Church. Andrea’s enduring passions were classical and religious music and, most importantly, love for her husband and family. Andrea is survived by her four children, Karin (James) Parrott, Kathleen (Robert) Beatty, Gregory (Kay) Scott, and Robert (Tina) Scott; six grandchildren, Thomas (Rachel) Martin, Matthew (Jennifer) Parrott, Amanda Hengesbach, Meghan (Patrick) Meadows, Hannah (George) Szegedy, and Ryan Scott; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Andrea has donated her body to Michigan State University for medical research. A memorial service will be held at Mayflower Congregational Church, 2345 Robinson Road SE, Grand Rapids, on Saturday, April 13, at 11:00 a.m. A brief memorial will also be held in the future at the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City. Those who wish to make contributions in her memory are encouraged to donate to the music program of any of the three churches named above. Condolences may be sent online at www.mkdfuneralhome.com.

Andrea was dear to us as was Chuck. They graciously received us newcomers into the Presbyterian Church in Traverse City. Our friendship continued strong after their move to Breton Woods. She always had coffee, tea and cookies ready for our visits. Andrea until her final days communicated with us, both of us doting upon our loving families...and our aches. We and Compass, our small group, will miss her.
