Zalewski, Steven Joseph
ZALEWSKI – Steven Joseph Zalewski, aged 51, of Grand Rapids, passed away very unexpectedly due to a series of strokes, from this life on August 13, 2011 and into the arms of Jesus Christ. He has been reunited with beloved family, including his grandparents August and Alena Spicuzza, Charles and Bernice Zalewski, and many uncles and aunts. Steve leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend; Pam; parents, Chuck and Mary Zalewski; brothers and sisters, Michael (Ruth Ann), Pat (Rose), Barb (Ron) Gallert and Kelli (Mike) Biesbrock; Aunt Nina Zajaczkowski, Aunt Ellie Spicuzza, Aunt Ruth Spicuzza; best lifetime buddy, John Ike and his mother Terri; Ed and Shirley Malone and all the boys; the VanDalsen family; the many other great families from Illinois Street; the many cousins, nephews and nieces whom he loved and adored and always bragged about. And of course his furry friends “kids” Tiffany, Joey, Vinnie and Sasha. Steve, who had an enormous and genuine love for his family and friends, was truly the light of his parents life. He cared deeply for his parents and spent every day helping to enrich their lives and care for them; and creating countless memories throughout their warm and loving home. He was always there to mow the lawn for his Dad, or move the furniture to put up the Christmas tree, or any household task that was difficult for his Dad and Mom. He never needed alot of material things, just to be loved, as he loved everyone else. A 1978 graduate of Kelloggsville High School, his family and friends know of his extremely gifted talents, including the "unofficially" best darn garage band drummer in Grand Rapids. Those who knew Steve, knew that he would give unquestioning support at a moments notice and always asked about his friends, their parents and their families. Steve will now take a box seat in heaven to watch all of his favorite teams. Steve lived his life to the fullest and embraced his every moment here on earth. His smile, his love of life, and his love for those around him, will truly be missed. Steve requested that his organs be donated so that others may live. “Love all as God has loved all of us.” A Mass to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Sebastian Church, 9408 Wilson SW, Byron Center with Monsignor William Duncan presiding. Relatives and friends may meet the family at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, on Wednesday from 6-9 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the needs of the family. Condolences may be sent online at www.mkdfuneralhome.com.
