WIERENGA: Gladys Wierenga, age 90, born April 21, 1921, is now resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior. She passed away Tuesday evening, May 17, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Gert Avink, Lena Rietman, Gerrit, Jake, Art, Rich, Clarence Wierenga; brothers-in-law, Clarence and Ray Wierenga; great grandson, Caleb Brunsink. Gladys will be greatly missed by her wonderful husband and best friend of almost 70 years, Gerald D. Wierenga; their children, Gloria and Tom Leeman of Hudsonville, Jan and Denny Wasolaskus of Grandville, Sheri and Mark Rinks of Jenison, Roxanne and Doug Steed of Lowell; grandchildren, Mike and Kerri Brow, Lisa and Jim Beerens, Andrea and Steve DeKock, Kevin and Brandi Leeman, Jennifer and Jaime Brunsink, Troy and Kate Rinks, Steven DeYoung, Joshua, Holly, and Jodi Wasolaskus, Sam, Aubreigh, and Gabe Steed; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Blanche and Art Bradley, Ruth and Harry Stalsonburg; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Wierenga, Harriet Wierenga. Gladys loved to cook and a great cook she was. Always willing to make a meal for someone in need, she along with her sister, Gert, started the Hot Lunch Program at Bursley Elementary in Jenison where she loved serving the staff and students for 21 years until the program was moved to Jenison High School. Gladys along with her husband, Gerald, are charter members of Zion Reformed Church in Grandville. She taught VBS, Sunday School and sang in the choir. She also played in the Hawaiian Messengers Orchestra, later known as Gospel Ambassadors. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Oak Crest Manor in Kentwood, for their love and care given to her over the last two years and especially during the last few hours of her life along with staff of Faith Hospice. She loved you all very much. Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive., with Rev. Rick Vander Wall officiating. Interment Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice.
