Pearce, Vernon

PEARCE:  Vernon “Spud”  Pearce, age 81, of Wyoming, passed into eternity on Thursday, September 15, 2011, and now joins his beloved wife, Hazel, who preceded him in 2000.  He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kristi Pearce.  He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War.  He retired from Packaging Corp. of America after over 40 years of faithful service.  Spud was a fun-loving, dependable and loyal man who enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting.  He also loved square dancing and spending time with his grandchildren.  He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Calvin and Theresa Pearce, Cynthia Stamps; grandchildren, Michael Wood, Jeremy Stout, Gabriel Stout, Nicole Badgley, Adam Pearce, Ray Stamps, Isaiah Pearce, Ezekiel Pearce; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Pat and Jim Martin; brother, Robert and Sharon Pearce; his loving companion and dance partner, Betty Ebels; lifelong friend, Wauneta Thompson; several nieces and nephews; many dear friends.  Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr., with Chaplain Carol Flietstra officiating.  Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

My thoughts are with you all. I wish I could be there. Uncle Spud made me laugh so often and he had some great words of encouragement for Charlie when he was getting ready to leave for Afghanistan. We will all miss him!! Love, Vickie
