Mehler, Richard Guy

Richard Guy Mehler, age 81, of Wyoming, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, March 10, 2014.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Dorothy Mehler; mother and father-in-law, Maxine and Paul Dibblee; sister, Peggy Zimmerman; brothers-in-law, Irving Lang, James Holzbach; sister-in-law, Connee (Robert) Sutter. He is survived by his loving wife of  60 years, Barbara; his beloved children, Laurel (James) Degnan of Chicago, IL; Michael Mehler of Cyprus, TX; brother, Leo Jr. (Sharon) Mehler; sister, Dolores Holzbach; brothers-in-law, Donald Zimmerman, Robert (Diane) Dibblee; sister-in-law, Darlene Lang; many nieces and nephews. Rich earned his Master’s Degree in Science from Purdue University.  He had a rewarding career mentoring both students and staff at Purdue University and Grand Valley State University.  Rich was known for his friendliness and considered it his mission to bring sunshine to those he met.  Rich proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at First Evangelical Covenant Church, 1933 Tremont Blvd. NW, Grand Rapids with Pastor Craig Swanson officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family at the church 1 hour prior to the service. An additional memorial service in Munster, IN will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to First Evangelical Covenant Church or The Salvation Army.

I say a little poem each morning when I walk by Michelle's memorial tree... I will include goes .. "Prehaps they are not stars in the sky but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know that they are happy."
