Leys, Mark Jason

LEYS:  Mark Jason Leys embarked on his crossroads on Sunday, June 12, 2011.  He had a brief hard-fought battle against Acute Myelogenous Leukemia for the past six months.  He will be greatly missed by his wife of 15 years, Naesha; parents, Carroll and Delores Leys; siblings, Dan and Mary Leys, Pam and Lester Cooke, Mike and Kari Leys, Gordon and Linda Leys, Shane Buitendyk;  nieces and nephews, Michelle Ellsworth, Jeff Ellsworth, Joseph Ellsworth, Breanna and Brendan Leys, Abigail and Nathanial Leys; many dear friends.  In December 2010, Mark went to the hospital thinking he had the flu.  He was diagnosed with AML.  From December 20th until his passing he endured four intensive rounds of chemotherapy.   After a generous donation of stem cells from his perfectly matched brother, Gordon, we all thought he would be cured.  The transplant failed along with the final round of chemotherapy.  Mark enjoyed life.  He enjoyed being outside, playing cards and traveling.  He mostly enjoyed his friends and family.  He completed his undergraduate studies with a degree in chemistry from Grand Valley State University.  He went on to complete his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Davenport University.  He was proud to start his own business, Compass Chemical Products, Inc. in 2005.  He opened with the help of his wife and his parents as employees and successfully expanded his business.  Over the years, Mark developed a close friendship with employee, Josh Switzer, who he loved very much.  Mark had a great sense of humor and lived by the laws of God.    A celebration of Mark’s life will be held 11 am on Thursday at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive with Rev. Ron Aulbach officiating.  Interment Courtland Township Cemetery.  Please join his wife, Naesha on Wednesday for a visitation from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the funeral home.

Mark Leys June 16, 2011
Mark will be greatly missed. We will always remember his light hearted spirit and cherish the memories we have built over the years of a long friendship. Until we meet again my friend...

Mark was a fun and fun-loving person who lived life on his terms and left us far too soon. He had a gift of making people laugh, was a good friend to those who knew him, and was dearly loved. We always looked forward to spending time with him, now and
in the years to come, but alas... Mark will be sorely missed by all his family and friends, and will serve as a reminder to live your own short life on your own terms, and with your focus on enjoying the truly important things and enriching the lives of those
around you.
Dan & Ren Phillips
We got to watch Mark grow from a young boy into a wonderful, caring man. We will miss his smile, his jokes, and his quick wit.He was a good son, brother, spouse and neighbor. I pray that his family will look back on all the joy he brought them and smile...often.

Growing up in the Leys family gave me many opportunities to get to know Mark. I remember many times going over to their house to play in the pool, play Atari or even for a sleep over. Those were times I will never forget. Always a fun, caring and creative
person, Mark will forever have a place in my heart. Aunt Dee, Uncle Buzz, Dan, Mike, Gordy and Pam...our thoughts and prayers are with you. Much love and peace to everyone...

I went to High School with Mark and even though I haven't seen him since then, I know I will miss him! (Along with all the other 'Rams' he went to school with.) He will be remembered as a very gentle, sweet person with a great smile! I'm sending prayers
to Mark's family!

Mark was truly a joy to be around. He was always quick with a joke and could make light of any situation. He was a fierce friend and we loved him very much. He and Naesha were perfectly matched and I can't believe he's gone.

Mark was just a bit younger than me, but yesterday I was talking to my mom and we were recalling some memories. One of the things we recalled was when some of the kids were giving him a hard time about all playing together and he came in the house to tell
his dad the kids wouldn't let him play. Uncle Buzz told him to go tell them that he said they all should play together. Marks' response was, "I twied and twied and dey just wouldn't listen to me." He was pretty animated sometimes and that was what made him
unique. We will miss you Mark, but only for a time.

I first got to know Mark through my sons, Rich and Mike, and it was a joy and special to know him. Anytime he came over he always said "Hi Mom", and that was special to me. Mark had many friends and touched their lives all in different ways. Naesha, I
can and do know how great your loss is, however, the memories of the special times in your lives together will be with you forever.

My condolences go to Mark's wife Naesha, the entire Leys family and all who were blessed enough to be a friend of Mark's. I pray that God's love is with you during this time of grief. Thinking of Mark brings memories of Atari, GI Joe, the red Olds, the
breezeway of his parents home and playing euchre. Mark enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest and he will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Peace, Prayers, and Blessings, Tracie (Scheer) Adams
