LEHNERTZ – Jake Lehnertz, aged 79, of Kentwood, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2011. Jake was a Korean War veteran serving in the US Air Force as a military policeman. He was a member of Teamsters #406. Jake was involved in Golden Gloves Boxing as a coach in the 70’s and 80’s and was also a coach and umpire at District #9 Little League for many years. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Tatsu; children, Fred and Kathy Lehnertz, Ed and Jennie Lehnertz, Janette Lehnertz; grandchildren, Rachel Buiter, T.J. and Jessica Lehnertz, Tara Lehnertz, Michael and Carmen Lehnertz; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Maida Baughman, Dag Bennett, Marlene and Frank Sherrod; step-brother, Fritz Lehnertz; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Jake will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
