KIRN – Geneva Kirn, aged 100, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Berghorst, James Porter, and John Kirn; step daughters, Arlene VanEck and Sally Hough; step son-in-law, Darrell Hough; step daughter-in-law, Betty Porter. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Berghorst; step-children, Frank Porter, Albert (Sue) Porter, Richard (Sherry) Porter, John VanEck, Velma (Bob) Barbachyn, Wilma Tait; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Geneva was a very special lady who enjoyed sewing and knitting for her family and her church. It is hard to know how many babies and children have worn one of her sweaters or how many people have curled up in one of her afghans. She was very active for most of her 100 years and looked forward to her 100th birthday which she celebrated in July with family and friends. She will be greatly missed by the people whose lives she touched. Funeral services for Geneva will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Interment Garfield Park Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7 pm and also on Thursday from 10-11 am prior to the service. Grandma you were a very special lady, you accepted the Porter clan as your family. You stepped in to be a Grandma and a Great-Grandma to all of us no question asked. We will all miss you greatly but you made it to 100! Sorry I missed your funeral but know
one told me you had died.
